Ink & Paper 2012.

Hello all,

How are you? Did you have a good weekend? I sure hope so. I had a hectic one! Went to a gig, band practice, did my radio show and still had time for a few drinks. Success! On Saturday afternoon, I also had the absolute pleasure of going to our nation's capital city (London in England) and attending the Ink & Paper event. A brief synopsis of the event is -  a whole bunch of talented artists display their gig poster work in The Ragfactory just off Brick Lane with the event being organised by the UKPA.

If I'm honest, before I started working for Awesome Merch I didn't know much about the world of art. Sure I knew a bit and could appreciate awesome art but didn't know much about the ethos and the people behind it. On Saturday I got to meet the legendary Drew Millward, Bobby Telegramme, Graham Pilling (Army of Cats) and Luke Drozd. All four of them took part in our Poster Roast series earlier in the year. I have to say all four of them were amazingly friendly and keen to talk to me about the world of art and what the event was about. It's obviously a way to promote their awesome art skills to the people of London but there was a cool sense of community and camaradarie and appreciation of other people's work.

The cool thing about working for Awesome is that I get to go to things like this and meet the rockstars of the art world. I really wanted to buy loads of posters and send the bill to HQ but I don't they would've appreciated it. Or maybe they would have! Hopefully something like this will happen in London next year but Screenadelica is happening in Liverpool this weekend for all you art and music fans! I now must also give a massive shout out to Sean Mort. Sean works for AM but also is a very talented artist. His work is minimalist (not basic - he'll beat you up) and he's also a top chap. He kept me entertained the whole time I was there. One of the highlights of the day was Sean having a conversation with two girls, which started with him trying to sell them his work and ended up with how much he hated Adele and advice on which famous pizza place they shouldn't eat at.

So to sum this all up. I know a lot of people who follow us are knowledgeable about the world of art and the skilled people behinf it. If you're not, then please take a few minutes to click on all the links in this blog and get yourself educated! Please enjoy the Instagram photos below. If you know of any awesome events that Awesome Merch should be at, then let me know. Have an awesome week!

Meet the Awesome Staff Part 1.

Hello all,

I'm gonna keep this as succinct as I can, because I love an internet waffle. Last week, I had the pleasure of being in Leeds for the week. I conducted a short and fairly ridiculous Q & A with all the team who lovingly take your orders, make your orders, answer your questions and work really, really hard. I'm sure they loved a southern fool annoying them with a stupid quiz whilst waving an iPhone in their face. The aim is that you guys will get to know who does what at AMHQ! Check out the links for what they do! Cool? Read on!

Please note, soup and chips is a culinary invention of Paul Brennan - one of the production crew. You'll see his interview soon. If you like soup and chips, tweet us @awesomemerch with the #soupandchips tag. Thank you!

Favourite city and why? Barrow - In - Furness. It's a town, so again I am not quite adhering to the specifics of the question, but this is my favourite city/town (you should have definitely added a town to the question). It's where I was born. Most people think that it is a dull, boring, end of the line poverty stricken town, but I know that it is where dreams are made.

Diagnosis Murder or Murder She Wrote? Diagnosis Murder of course. I was in a band called 'Diagnosis' in school so I am biased.

Have you ever had soup and chips? Soup yes, chips yes, soup and chips no.

Awesome Dine With Me!

Hello,

Well we did it! Thanks very much to everyone that helped us get to 5000 followers on Twitter. It's much appreciated! Next stop - 10,000! To celebrate this milestone, we're gonna have a Twitter competition. The winner of the comp will win 250 x custom shaped vinyl stickers, 100 x 25mm badges, 10 x pocket mirrors and 20 x bottle opener keyrings. A hefty haul I'm sure you'll agree and a useful (awesome) prize for bands, brands and individuals alike. We'll send out goody bags to some runners up. We're awesome like that.

As always I've punned TERRIBLY on the title and for this I apologise. A while back I was a contestant on the TV show - Come Dine With Me. If you want proof, click on this link or this one. Warning, I did get naked. So don't watch if you're having your lunch. So what relevance does this have to the competition?

I didn't get to choose my guests when I went on the show but you can! Who would your three ideal dinner guests be? They can be dead, alive, fictional, a friend, cartoon character, pet or whoever you want. It can even be me, if you want a naked clown ruining your night with his albino Twiglet. Tweet us your answer, with maybe a reason and use the hashtag #awesomedinewithme.

If you wanna know how to get more involved with Awesome Merch, then read this. Okay, that's it. I've now lost what little dignity I had left and I'm off to bow my head in shame. Winners announced a week today! Good luck :)

Let's get social!

Hello Awesome people.

How are you all? I'm full of cold and when you have a nose this big, it's a serious business. There'll be no hosepipe ban in my house. I'll just stand in the garden sneezing. ANYWAY! I used that intro on a Facebook update this morning and one person out of 11,193 liked it - so I thought it was worth using again. That was some good feedback! So you may be asking where is this blog going? What is the point of it? Why is this strange man rambling on? Well all will become apparent in the next paragraph.

Here's the next paragraph. If you haven't read one of my blogs then hello, my name is Jhon and I'm in charge of all things social, promotional and online for Awesome Merch. I've been working for AM for over three years now and remember when My Space was our main focus of promotion! Before that I did screenprinting for three years, so I've been involved in the world of merch for a quite a while now. I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet here but merely sounding the horn that I'm now going to be working full-time for Awesome Merchandise - which means more competitions, more fun and more of all the awesome things we've been doing over the last year. Last week I spent the week at HQ in Leeds and got to meet all the new staff (and my old favourites) and they're all awesome and individual people! I'll be blogging about them later in the week.

The most important thing I wanna get across is our Awesome Community and the following things we as a company can do online to help promote what you do and of course what we do. These points will outline the things that we have in store and how you can get more involved with Awesome Merch!

- My e-mail address is Jhon@awesomemerchandise.com Please add that to your address books and mail me if I can help with anything. I'm pretty good with all things awesome like cricket, capital cities and early Green Day. Of course Awesome Merch related things are acceptable too.

- Are you trying to promote something awesome? Your band, business, event, charity, clothng company or something else? Then send us a RT request on Twitter with the #awesomecommunity hashtag and we'll do the rest.

- Mail me photos of your merch. Every photo we get sent will be put into our Facebook gallery along with a weblink, which will help promote what you do and what we do! We'll send out random goody bags to people that do this! Goody bags contain a whole load of awesome printed merch along with an Awesome Merch or Poster Roast t-shirt. Well worth getting! Of course, you can tweet them too!

- Recommend us to someone on Twitter or Facebook. Tag us on either. We'll be sending random goody bags out every week to people who do.

- We'll also be sending out goody bags to our Facebook comment and Tweet of the week. So make sure you get in touch!

- Do you have an event that you think Awesome Merch shoud be at? I'm afraid we can't come to your local fete or first communion but if you think something is relevent, get in touch.

- Feel free to let me know about any suggestions you have on how we could improve our service, website, product or anything AM related.

- I'll be working on new competition ideas. Thanks to Luke (Awesome boss), I have a generous budget and we'll be running comps all the time. Whether they're on a short-term or long-term basis, they're gonna be more frequent and more AWESOME. Again, if you've any suggestions then get in touch!

So that's my list of things you can get involved with and hopefully you will. We're on a constant mission to improve what we do. Trust me, I wouldnt work for Awesome Merch if they weren't the best about. I have to work for somewhere that I care about!  So In conclusion, I wanna hear from you! Let's get social!

May the fourth be with you! Star Wars & awesome art alert.

Hello awesome art fans!

As you may well know, we love awesome art and design here at Awesome Merch. So much so that we got heavily involved with the Poster Roast series last year. Well here's an awesome event that showcases amazing art as well as being a must for any serious fan of Star Wars. I'm in both camps - if only I lived closer! Maybe I could ask Han Solo to pick me up in his Millenium Falcon? That last sentence is probably the worst sentence I've ever written. Not in terms of grammar but in terms of terrible cheese. Anyway, I spoke to Barry Darnell who's the curator of the event and he had this to say...

"With the @Starwarsleeds event drawing ever closer we wanted to share some sneak peeks of the art that will be on display and available to purchase! The amazing selection here comes courtesy of: @WeMakeStuff @abell_octovan @Dougy74Design @kbaczynski @rabbitportal @banalpig

As well as the art there will be a huge vintage toy exhibition, live music, Youtube visuals mixed live by @timineaux , A pop up shop selling both vintage and new Star Wars merchandise, a screening of 'A New Hope' and much much more! This is going to be one hell of a party.... Fancy dress is not essential but feel free to come as your favourite character:)

If you fancy winning a pair of tickets to the Star Wars - May the 4th launch party and a really cool Darth Vader clock from @truffleshuffle_? Well, we're looking for true Star Wars fans! Simply tweet a picture of yourself in Star Wars themed fancy dress along with this message "I'm a true Star Wars fan and I want to win #Maythe4thbewithyou @truffleshuffle_ @thehanggang @starwarsleeds" That's it!

Full comp info here, tickets for the launch party are still available here, and additional info here!"

So to sum this up. Star Wars + amazing art + huge collection of Star Wars memorabilia. Definitely a winner! I'm just gonna give a quick shout out to Sean Mort and Kristyna Baczynski who both work at Awesome Merch. They're both very talented designers and lovely people. Check them out! You can see some of Kristyna's amazing art at the Star Wars event.

That's it for another blog! If you've got anything you think will make an awesome blog, then tweet us!

How art thou? The Great Wall of Drew and Ink & Paper!

Hello everyone!

How are you? Apologies for the terrible title of this blog but it's a Sunday, my brain isn't totally functioning and it's all that I've got. Glad that's out of the way. On with the art! On the weekend of March 31st/April1st we invited Drew Millward to paint our office the colour of awesome. He kindly obliged and the outcome is incredibly awesome! You can watch the video here and see some amazing photos here. Please check out Drew's website as he is incredibly talented. Video wise, we must also thank Blacklisters for the heavy tune and Fresh Cut for the fresh cut. Glad I spelt that last link correctly. If you're tweeting about it, then please use #thegreatwallofdrew tag.

You can also see the video on Vimeo! and pick up Drew's Poster Roast shirt here.

Moving on from awesome art to even more awesome art. Ink & Paper, a large gig poster show organised by the UKPA will be taking place in London on 11th-13th May 2012. Here's the blurb!
