Hello awesome people!
Right: I am bloody excited about this comp. I’ve wanted to run one in conjunction with these guys forever. They’ve been a big part of my life, I’m sure you know them too and they are awesome in everything but name. If you hadn’t already guessed from my thinly disguised tweets, it’s BANQUET RECORDS.
If you don’t know who these guys are, then where have you been for the last ten years? Banquet Records have their own shop in Kingston, and as well as being an independent record store, they run a label, loads of shows, their New Slang club nights and have even run their first festival. The best thing about Banquet is that there’s no clique. All forms of music are catered for, from dubstep to ska, and a keen sense of community is important as they sponsor their local football side, as well as helping out every small band in the country with a show. They’ve put on everyone from Ed Sheeran to Gallows and everything in between.
The head honcho of Banquet Records is one Mr. Jon Tolley. He first gave my band shows back in 2004 when we were still unsure which end was which on a guitar. Still not sure. He also kindly put our album out on the Banquet label, and even let us sleep on the shop floor after a late show! I think you get the the kind of place that Banquet Records is, and I’m sure you’ve got a story or two. If you’re new to them, check out their website and everything they do! Anyway, I spoke to JT yesterday and he has given us some AWESOME prizes for a comp. So without further ado, let’s crack on.
FIRST PRIZE – A pair of tickets to Everytime I Die / Last Witness at The Fighting Cocks, Kingston on Thursday, August 23rd. This show is only a 120 capacity, and SOLD OUT IN FIVE SECONDS. This is the ONLY PLACE YOU CAN GET A TICKET! You’ll also get a £50 voucher for the AM site and an AM goody bag bundle!
SECOND PRIZE – A pair of tickets to the We Are The Ocean release show at The Hippodrome on Friday, September 14th. You’ll also get a £50 voucher for the AM site and an AM goody bag bundle!
THIRD PRIZE – The last ten releases from the Banquet Records label plus a a £50 voucher for the AM site and an AM goody bag bundle!
To be honest, all prizes are equal and are well worth winning! It’s a veritable smorgasbord of awesome comps. Some may even call it a banquet.
